Portrait of Grand Master De Paule
During
a reception held at the Society's premises on the occasion of the Parish's
Titular Feast of Christ the King, on 23rd July 2003 , a life-size portrait of
Grand Master Fra Antoine De Paule, founder of Paula, was unveiled by Mr.
Mark Ferris, an active member and benefactor of the Society. Mr. Ferris donated
this painting to the Society on behalf of his family.
In
this painting by the young artist David Borg, G.M. De Paule is portrayed in the
traditional pose of official state portraiture, richly attired and holding
Paula's foundation document in his left hand. The painting depicts a lavish
interior with an architectural backdrop and expensive curtains and furniture.
The
elegant frame, made by Martin Scerri, was painted and gilded by Raymond Galea.
