Mro. Archibald Mizzi was born in Qormi in 1952, son of Chev. Mro. Abel J. Mizzi and Alice nee Cassar. He started his education under the Augustinian Sisters, continued in a Government School and finally in St.Michael's College. He started his musical studies at the tender age of six years at the St.George the Martyr club, Qormi under the direction of his father. When he was nine years old he began to play the E flat clarinet with the St.George's band club of Qormi of whom his father was the conductor. In the meantime Archibaldi was taking piano lessons under the tuition of Mrs. Bice Bisazza and at the same time was studying the Theory of Music and Harmony under Mro. Carmelo Pace L.R.S.M., F.S.L.M. At the age of sixteen, Mro. Archibald Mizzi started studying the Bassoon under the watchful eye of Mro. Joseph Sammut, after which he successfully completed his advance studies in the same instrument at Torino in Italy under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Della Valle. On returning to Malta Archibald was appointed to play with the Manoel Theatre Orchestra as Principal Bassoonist, a post which he holds to this day. He continued with his studies, this time under Mro. Carmelo Zammit and obtained the A.Mus.L.C.M diploma in 1986. Mro. Mizzi teaches music in the Johann Strauss School as well as the Catholic Institute, Floriana. He composed his first classical work, a concert prelude, in 1995 entitled "Tribute to Mro. Joseph Sammut". Mro Mizzi started his career with the Banda Kristu Re in 1991 when he was the Assistant Director of Mro. Carmelo Caruana and teacher of the woodwind instruments. He became the official music director of the G.M. Fra Antoine De Paule Philharmonic Society on the eve of the feast celebrated in 1993 and has been conducting the Christ the King Band ("Banda Kristu Re") since then. On that day he directed the band during the second part of the official program held during the feast celebrated by the parish of Paola. The leadership of the band was passed to him by the previous director ,Mro. Carmelo Caruana. It was a moment blended with great emotion and great expectations - everybody had high hopes and no one doubted his capabilities. Like his predecessor, he is very knowledgeable in classical and other complex music.
The composition of several popular festive marches made Archibald one of the most favourite Maltese composers, and the notable style and precision with which he conducts helped him to establish himself amongst the music community of Malta. Under his guidance "Banda Kristu Re" gave several prestigious concerts, both in Malta and abroad.
